I had never heard or heard of "Nun ade, du mein lieb' Heimatland" until coming across it in
Die Seemannskiste Volume 2 whilst looking for some German sea songs for Ernst Richter. I don't exactly go great bundles on the lyrics but the melody is just great for accordion (Ernst's instrument) and concertina. The lyrics are so sentimental, really "kitschig" to such a degree that I just cannot imagine that a German seaman or indeed any seaman could have ever sung it. This comes from one who loved the seas and was always sad when a commission was over.
Having said all that, I know this song can bring tears to German "Landratten".
